Lecturer – PGCE Secondary Science

The University of Worcester (UW) has a reputation for its high quality and innovative provision in Education. As an ‘Outstanding’ (March 23) provider of Initial Teacher Education (ITE), we are nationally recognised for our overall quality and high sustained employment rates of our trainee teachers. Science is a well-established subject in our PGCE Secondary portfolio.  This is an exciting opportunity for a subject specialist in Science to join our team as a Lecturer on a fixed term basis to cover maternity leave. In this context, the Institute of Education is seeking to appoint an inspirational and excellent subject specialist. The successful applicant will have responsibility for contributing to teaching on the PGCE Science Programme and carrying out visits to trainees in their placement settings.

Selection methods

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a formal panel interview, and also asked to deliver a 20 minute teaching session to the following brief:

Teaching Session

‘Promoting inclusion through science’

The session should be aimed at Secondary PGCE science trainees who are at the beginning of the course. Please ensure your teaching session is underpinned by research. Please note the audience, for the purpose of the interview, will be a small group of members of staff from the Institute of Education but please treat your audience as if they were trainee teachers. The chair of this group will provide feedback on the teaching session to the interview panel.

What's in it for you:

  • Salary range of £23,270.40 – £26,089.20 per annum for 22.2 hours (£38,784- £43,482 FTE)
  • 47 days of leave per year (inclusive of bank holidays and University closure days) pro-rata for part time
  • Access to a range of benefits such as our Staff Retail Benefits Scheme, Cycle to Work Scheme and Tusker Car Leasing
  • Wellbeing advice and support through our Employee Assistance Programme
  • In-house training and development support
  • A friendly, inclusive and supportive culture and work environment

Informal queries about the role should be sent to Dr Tracy Wallis - t.wallis@worc.ac.uk

Please note that if not already an employee of the University of Worcester, the appointed candidate will be employed through our subsidiary company Uniworc Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of University of Worcester. Appointees of Uniworc Limited will automatically be enrolled into the Aviva FlexHE defined contribution pension scheme (subject to earnings and other eligibility criteria).
